JUBA, July 8, 2026 – His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has received a comprehensive briefing from the Governor of Upper Nile State, James Koang Chuol, on the political and security situation in the state, with the governor reporting that conditions remain stable ahead of the country’s general elections.
During the meeting at the State House, Governor Koang informed the President that the security situation across Upper Nile State is calm, allowing residents to carry on with their daily activities without disruption.
He said communities throughout the state, including the eastern and northern regions, are experiencing normalcy and are preparing to participate in the forthcoming general elections.
“All areas are quite normal, including the eastern and northern parts of the state. There are no security concerns, and people are going about their daily activities without any interruption,” Governor Koang said.
The governor also expressed confidence in the state’s readiness for the elections, noting that the prevailing peace and stability provide a conducive environment for the electoral process.
The briefing forms part of President Kiir’s ongoing consultations with state leaders as the government intensifies preparations for the December 2026 general elections, while working to consolidate peace, strengthen security, and ensure a peaceful and credible democratic process across the country.
