
JUBA, June 25, 2026 — His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has called for greater momentum in strengthening South Sudan’s justice system, emphasising that an effective legal framework is essential to safeguarding peace, protecting citizens’ rights, and advancing national development.
The call came during a meeting at the Presidency with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol, who presented an overview of the Ministry’s ongoing work, institutional priorities, and progress in implementing its mandate.
Dr. Wek reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the administration of justice, promoting respect for the Constitution and the laws of South Sudan, and improving the effectiveness of legal institutions. He said the Ministry will continue pursuing reforms aimed at increasing public confidence in the justice sector while ensuring that the law is applied fairly and consistently.
President Kiir noted that a credible justice system is a cornerstone of a stable nation and urged the Ministry to accelerate efforts to improve access to justice and reinforce legal accountability across the country.
The President further encouraged closer engagement between the Ministry and key partners including state institutions, civil society, and local communities, to expand legal awareness and foster a culture of respect for the rule of law.
The discussions also reviewed the Ministry’s priorities for the months ahead, with both sides affirming the importance of a strong and independent justice sector in supporting South Sudan’s democratic progress, lasting peace, and sustainable development.
