JUBA, JUNE 24, 2026 — The President of the Republic His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit has received a detailed briefing from Vice President and Chairperson for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol following his recent tour of several areas in the Bahr el Ghazal region, where he engaged with communities at the grassroots level and gathered urgent development priorities and concerns.
During the briefing, VP Hussein outlined key issues raised by citizens, with particular emphasis on the urgent need to improve road connectivity across rural and semi-rural areas. Communities also highlighted challenges in accessing clean and safe drinking water, especially in agricultural settlements where many farmers have relocated in pursuit of farming activities.
Hussein further underscored the importance of strengthening peacebuilding efforts in border areas, particularly among the Dinka Malual, Misseriya, and Rizigat communities.
The briefing also addressed broader socio-economic concerns, including the empowerment of youth and women, as well as the expansion of employment opportunities. Vice President Hussein emphasised that these issues remain central to improving livelihoods and promoting inclusive development across the region.
In response, President Kiir directed Vice President Hussein and the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Africano Mande Gedima, to work closely together in coordinating government efforts to address the highlighted concerns.
