
Juba, April 27, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has received a detailed briefing from a government delegation that attended the 2026 IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
The delegation was led by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, and included the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, the First Undersecretary of Finance, and the Undersecretary for Planning in the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
During the meetings, the delegation held high-level engagements with the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, where they provided updates on key economic challenges facing South Sudan. Discussions focused on economic recovery, investment promotion, and strengthening fiscal stability, as well as advancing ongoing reform efforts.
Minister Garang expressed appreciation to the United States Government for its continued interest in supporting South Sudan’s development, noting in particular potential areas of collaboration, including the mining sector.
The delegation further highlighted that key priorities discussed during the Spring Meetings included capacity building and training for financial sector personnel, aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and institutional effectiveness.
The briefing reiterated the government’s ongoing efforts to deepen international partnerships and accelerate reforms critical to South Sudan’s economic growth.
