President Kiir Returns from State Visit to Ethiopia, Citing Strong Bilateral Ties

Juba, April 25, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit returned to Juba following a state visit to Addis Ababa, conducted at the invitation of the Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

Speaking to the media at Juba International Airport, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Monday Simaya Kumba described the visit as strategic, successful, and historic.

President Kiir held extensive talks with Prime Minister Abiy, covering political developments, economic cooperation, and regional security. The two leaders also addressed South Sudan’s internal progress, including preparations for the upcoming elections, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, development, and institutional reform.

The visit produced concrete diplomatic outcomes. South Sudan received allocated land in Addis Ababa for the construction of its embassy, while pledging in return to allocate land in Juba for Ethiopia’s diplomatic mission.

The two leaders additionally explored opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure, trade, the oil industry, and transportation, reflecting a shared ambition to deepen economic integration.

Hon. Monday communicated President Kiir’s gratitude to the Ethiopian Government and the people for their warm hospitality, describing the visit as a renewed commitment by both nations to work together on political, economic, and regional priorities.
