President Kiir Swears in Reassigned Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministers, Cites Experience and Versatility in Strengthening Governance

JUBA, June 19, 2026 — President of the Republic, His Excellency General Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Friday administered the oath of office to two reassigned cabinet ministers, underscoring his confidence in their experience, versatility, and commitment to public service as South Sudan advances its governance and democratic transition agenda.

The President swore in Hon. Wek Mamer Kuol as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs during a ceremony held at the Presidency in Juba.

The two ministers took the oath of office, pledging to serve the Republic of South Sudan diligently, honestly, and faithfully, uphold the Constitution, and discharge their duties in the interest of the nation and its people.

Addressing the newly sworn-in ministers, President Kiir described the occasion as an important constitutional process, while reminding those present that public service ultimately depends on performance and dedication to the people.

“Sometimes people see these ceremonies and think they are a very big thing because everyone wants to witness them,” President Kiir said. “But in reality, it is a simple process. What matters is the work that comes afterward. Let us continue with the new ministries and let us see the results.”

The President noted that the appointments are not new entrants into government but rather a reassignment of two seasoned leaders who have demonstrated their capabilities through years of public service.

President Kiir praised both ministers as highly versatile public servants, expressing confidence that they would continue to excel in their new assignments.

The Head of State further reminded the ministers that they are custodians of government service delivery and must ensure that the institutions under their leadership remain focused on addressing the needs and aspirations of the people of South Sudan.

Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in ministers, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, now Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, thanked the President for the confidence placed in them and reaffirmed their commitment to serving the nation.

“As your ministers, we are committed to serving you and the country to the best of our abilities,” Hon. Makuei said. “We will continue working to ensure that government institutions function effectively and that the country remains on course, including ensuring that preparations for elections continue as we serve our people.”

Meanwhile, Hon. Wek Mamer Kuol, the newly appointed Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, expressed gratitude to President Kiir for entrusting him with the new responsibility.

“This is another opportunity to serve the people of South Sudan,” Hon. Wek Mamer said. “Despite the change in assignment, my dedication and loyalty to the causes of South Sudan remain unwavering. We will continue to work closely with Your Excellency, under your guidance, and for the good of our country.”

The reassignment of the two ministers reflects the government’s continued efforts to strengthen institutional performance by placing experienced leaders in strategic positions to support governance reforms, reinforce the rule of law, enhance coordination between state institutions, and advance South Sudan’s journey toward lasting peace, stability, and democratic governance.
