SPLM Endorses Electoral Roadmap, Intensifies Organisational Preparations Ahead of Elections

JUBA, JUNE 18, 2026 — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has reaffirmed its readiness for South Sudan’s forthcoming general elections and welcomed the release of the national electoral calendar, signaling a new phase of political mobilisation and organisational preparedness across the country.

The resolutions were adopted during a meeting of the SPLM leadership chaired by the Party Chairman and President of the Republic, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit. The meeting was attended by Second Deputy Chairperson, Mary Apai and Third Deputy Chairman, Simon Kun Pouch.

SPLM Secretary General Dr. Akol Paul Kordit said the leadership welcomed the announcement of the electoral timetable by the National Elections Commission and reiterated the party’s full commitment to the democratic process.

“The SPLM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the democratic process and its full readiness to participate in the forthcoming elections,” Dr. Akol said, adding that the party’s structures across the country have been directed to intensify preparations for the electoral exercise.

As part of its election strategy, the SPLM resolved to convene an expanded consultative meetings in Juba in the coming weeks, bringing together state SPLM chairpersons, governors, chief administrators of the three administrative areas, and senior party officials from across the country.

The meetings are expected to assess the performance of party structures nationwide, review organisational readiness, and lay the groundwork for the 10th SPLM National Convention.

SPLM has been engaging with ruling political parties in neighboring countries as part of efforts to deepen regional party-to-party cooperation. The party plans to sign several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and organise joint workshops and exchange programs aimed at sharing experiences in governance, party organisation, political mobilisation, and electoral management.

According to the leadership, the party’s structures are aligned, preparations are progressing as planned, and the SPLM remains confident in its readiness to participate fully in the elections scheduled for later this year.

The leadership concluded by calling upon all party members and cadres at every level to mobilise, organise, and prepare for the elections, underscoring the SPLM’s determination to strengthen its structures and contribute to a peaceful, democratic, and successful electoral process.
