JUBA, APRIL 10, 2026 — The Council of Ministers, in its regular sitting chaired by His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit, deliberated on two key policy proposals aimed at strengthening national security coordination and advancing economic development.

The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Aleu Ayieny Aleu, presented a memorandum on the proposed Amalgamation of Law Enforcement Agencies into a single Unified Police Force. The initiative seeks to integrate the police, prison service, civil defence, and wildlife forces under one coordinated structure to enhance efficiency, command, and professionalism across the security sector.

Addressing the media, Deputy Minister of Information Hon. David Yau Yau noted that the proposed reform will soon be submitted to the National Legislative Assembly for deliberation and ratification. The Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to building a disciplined, professional, and well-equipped police service capable of effectively fulfilling its constitutional mandate.

In a separate agenda item, the Council reviewed and approved a Memorandum of Understanding presented by the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec, on the Livestock Development Policy and Strategic Plan (2026–2030). The policy is designed to modernise and regulate the livestock and fisheries sectors, positioning them as key drivers of national economic growth.

The government underscored that the initiative will promote commercialisation, strengthen value chains, and support sustainable livelihoods, reaffirming South Sudan’s potential as a leading regional hub in livestock and fisheries.
