Juba, April 29, 2026 — The President of the Republic, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, has been briefed on the general situation in the Abyei Special Administrative Area.

The Chief Administrator, Justice Charles Abyei Jok, informed the President that security in the area remains relatively peaceful, despite some isolated incidents that require concerted efforts to resolve.

Justice Jok emphasised five key points outlined by the United Nations, particularly on strengthening cooperation with the authorities in the Abyei Area. On development, the Chief Administrator noted that plans are underway to upgrade the road network to improve the movement of people and goods across the area.

The Chief Administrator described the discussions as constructive, adding that the Abyei issue was fully deliberated. He assured that follow-up measures would be undertaken to address the Abyei file.
