South Sudan and Uganda have launched renewed cross-border peace and security talks aimed at addressing border-related concerns and strengthening stability along their shared border. The meeting is being held in Arua City, Uganda, with Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony leading a high-level South Sudanese delegation. The talks are focusing on recent tensions in Kajo-Keji and ways to find amicable solutions to border disputes. Opening the fifth Uganda-South Sudan Joint Bilateral Meeting, Governor Adil described the gathering as a key step toward implementing resolutions of the October 2023 Yumbe Communiqué.Governor Adil said relations between Uganda and South Sudan are rooted in decades of shared struggles and mutual support. He commended Uganda for hosting hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese refugees during periods of conflict, describing it as a humanitarian commitment that South Sudan continues to appreciate. The Governor urged both countries to treat current border disputes as local community issues rather than allowing them to escalate into national confrontations. Representing the Ugandan delegation, Ambassador Brigadier General Ronnie Balyah called on the leadership of both countries to prioritize peace, stability, and civilian protection by taking prompt action to de-escalate tensions along the border.
