
Juba, May 5, 2026 — The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Africano Mande Gedima, has held discussions with a delegation from the Russian Federation on strengthening bilateral relations between Juba and Moscow.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, H.E. Roman Marshavin. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors, including energy and education, as both sides explored ways to advance mutual interests.
The Russian side shared plans to increase investments in the Republic of South Sudan, particularly in the energy sector, and to expand educational opportunities for South Sudanese students to study in Russia. Both parties noted that relations between the two countries continue to grow progressively across several areas of cooperation.
Hon. Africano described the meeting as “fruitful and highly positive,” adding that both sides agreed to move forward with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise areas of collaboration in the near future.
On behalf of His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Minister also conveyed best wishes to the Russian Federation ahead of its upcoming Victory Day celebrations on May 9, 2026.
