
Juba, May 6, 2026 — The President of the Republic, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, has received a report from Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol on his recent visit to Lakes State.
During the briefing, the Vice President informed the President that he fulfilled the representation assigned to him by attending the graduation ceremony at the Rumbek University of Science and Technology (RUST), where he also engaged with local leaders and communities on key development issues.
He highlighted concerns raised by residents, including the need to improve security and fast-track the construction of the Juba–Bahr el Ghazal highway. The Vice President noted that communities also called for the expansion of telephone services to improve communication across the region.
VP Hussein further briefed the President on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and the United States aimed at supporting the provision of healthcare services in the country.
The President welcomed the update and emphasised the importance of continued engagement with communities to address their needs and support development efforts across the Republic of South Sudan.
