Juba, May 7, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit today witnessed the official handover of command of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) at Bilpam Military Headquarters.

The ceremony marked the transition of leadership from General Dr. Paul Nang Majok to General Santino Deng Wol as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Addressing the leadership and ranks, President Kiir called for unity of command, discipline, and close coordination across all security institutions. He stressed that a professional and united army remains central to safeguarding peace, stability, and national unity.

The President urged all officers to serve with integrity, commitment, and a clear sense of duty to the people of South Sudan.

The Minister of Defence, General Chol Thon Balok, pledged full support to the new leadership and reaffirmed the Government’s focus on reforming and strengthening the military.

General Santino Deng Wol expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and committed to enhancing operational readiness, professionalism, and effectiveness within the SSPDF.

The outgoing Chief of Defence Forces, General Dr. Paul Nang Majok, thanked the President for the opportunity to serve and pledged continued support to ensure a smooth transition.

The ceremony underscored a clear message: a united, disciplined, and professional military is essential to securing lasting peace and stability in South Sudan.
