Juba, May 8, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit left Juba this morning for Djibouti to participate in the inauguration ceremony of H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti.
While in Djibouti, the two leaders are expected to hold bilateral talks to bolster relations between the two countries, with emphasis on economic cooperation and regional stability.
It is worth noting that South Sudan and Djibouti share the same vision for peace, stability, and economic growth in the Horn of Africa.
With Djibouti holding a strategic geoeconomic position as a gateway to the international community, there is tremendous potential to create enhanced opportunities for South Sudan, especially in gaining improved access to seaports, facilitating the export of goods, and boosting regional integration.
Officials say President Kiir’s presence at the ceremony cements South Sudan’s commitment to forging stronger partnerships, enhancing regional cooperation, and promoting prosperity in the Horn of Africa.
