As South Sudan continues to navigate the complex path toward lasting peace, the Patriotic People’s Party emphasizes that peace without justice is not sustainable. True peace requires accountability for past atrocities, respect for human rights, and a commitment to addressing the root causes of conflict.

The revitalized peace agreement has brought some stability, but the underlying grievances that fueled decades of war remain largely unaddressed. Communities affected by violence have not seen justice, displaced populations have not been able to return home with dignity, and the economic conditions that contributed to conflict have not improved for the majority of citizens.

The PPP believes that any peace process must include meaningful mechanisms for transitional justice. This includes truth-telling processes that acknowledge the suffering of victims, accountability for those who committed serious crimes under both domestic and international law, reparations for affected communities, and institutional reforms that prevent future abuses.

We also emphasize the critical importance of inclusive peace processes. Women, youth, civil society, and political parties must have meaningful seats at the table. Peace imposed by armed actors alone will not last. The PPP has consistently advocated for a broader peace process that includes all stakeholders, not just signatories to the existing agreement.

The National Parties Alliance (NPA), under the leadership of the PPP, continues to push for electoral reforms that will enable free and fair elections. South Sudan’s transition period cannot be indefinite. The people deserve the opportunity to choose their leaders through democratic processes that reflect their will.

We call on all parties to the conflict to prioritize the interests of the South Sudanese people above narrow political calculations. The time for genuine peace is now, and the PPP stands ready to contribute to this noble cause.
