Education is the single most important investment any nation can make in its future. For South Sudan, where an entire generation has grown up in the shadow of conflict, education is not just a development priority — it is a matter of survival and national renewal.
The Patriotic People’s Party believes that every South Sudanese child deserves access to quality education regardless of their family’s economic circumstances or where they live. This is not merely a moral imperative but an economic necessity. Without an educated workforce, South Sudan cannot diversify its economy, attract investment, or compete in the global marketplace.
The current state of education in South Sudan is alarming. The country has some of the worst education indicators in the world, with millions of children out of school, severe shortages of trained teachers, and inadequate infrastructure. The PPP is committed to addressing this crisis with urgency and determination.
Our education agenda includes several key priorities. First, increasing investment in education to at least 20 percent of the national budget, as recommended by international standards. Second, launching a massive teacher training program to address the critical shortage of qualified educators. Third, building schools in underserved areas, particularly in rural communities and displacement camps. Fourth, providing free primary education and expanding access to secondary and tertiary education. Fifth, developing a curriculum that promotes critical thinking, national unity, and practical skills.
We also believe that education must be inclusive. Girls, children with disabilities, and children from marginalized communities must have equal access to educational opportunities. The PPP supports policies that remove barriers to education for these groups.
Higher education and vocational training are equally important. South Sudan needs engineers, doctors, teachers, and skilled technicians to build the nation. The PPP advocates for the revitalization of our universities and the expansion of technical and vocational education and training programs.
Investing in education is investing in peace. Studies have shown that educated populations are less likely to experience conflict and more likely to build stable, prosperous societies. The PPP is committed to making education the foundation of South Sudan’s future.
