South Sudan’s economic potential remains unmatched in the region. With abundant oil reserves, vast agricultural land, and the life-giving waters of the Nile, our nation has all the ingredients for prosperity. Yet mismanagement, corruption, and conflict have kept our people in poverty.
The Patriotic People’s Party proposes a comprehensive economic recovery plan that prioritizes diversification, transparency, and inclusive growth. Our roadmap consists of five key priorities that we believe can transform South Sudan’s economy within a decade.
First, agricultural transformation. South Sudan has some of the most fertile soil in Africa, yet we import most of our food. The PPP advocates for a Green Revolution that invests in smallholder farmers, irrigation infrastructure, and access to markets. Agriculture must become the backbone of our economy, providing food security and employment for millions.
Second, oil revenue transparency. The oil sector generates the vast majority of government revenue, yet the benefits have not reached ordinary citizens. The PPP demands full transparency in oil revenue management, with clear allocation of funds to public services and infrastructure development. We support the creation of a sovereign wealth fund that saves a portion of oil revenues for future generations.
Third, infrastructure development. South Sudan has one of the lowest road densities in the world, making transport costly and connecting communities difficult. Investment in roads, bridges, electricity, and telecommunications is essential for economic growth. The PPP supports public-private partnerships and regional cooperation to accelerate infrastructure development.
Fourth, youth employment and entrepreneurship. The majority of South Sudanese are under 30, yet youth unemployment is staggeringly high. The PPP advocates for skills training programs, access to credit for young entrepreneurs, and policies that create an enabling environment for business growth.
Fifth, fighting corruption. Corruption is the single greatest obstacle to South Sudan’s development. The PPP is committed to strengthening anti-corruption institutions, protecting whistleblowers, and ensuring that those who steal public funds face justice regardless of their position.
This roadmap is achievable if South Sudanese leaders demonstrate the political will to put the nation’s interests first. The PPP is ready to lead this effort.
