Juba, May 21, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has backed a new policy proposal to accelerate road construction across South Sudan, following a briefing from Minister of Roads and Bridges Peter Lam Both on Thursday.

Minister Lam presented a proposal to establish an escrow account for oil revenues, a measure designed to improve transparency and attract international construction firms to competitively bid for road projects nationwide.

The President responded positively and reaffirmed road connectivity as a key Government priority.

Among the key updates, the Juba–Bahr el Ghazal Highway will see accelerated construction after the Government assigned an additional Chinese company, Jonshu International, to handle the Rumbek–Wau section, reducing construction time on one of the country’s most critical transport corridors.

The meeting also covered progress on the Nadapal–Boma–Raad–Ethiopia Highway, expected to be funded by the African Development Bank, and the Juba–Torit–Nadapal Highway, currently under World Bank consideration.
