JUBA, June 17, 2026 — His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has received a report from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs on the ongoing efforts to resolve pending court cases and outstanding legal matters, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and improving access to justice for all citizens.

The directive came during a meeting with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, who briefed the President on the status of ongoing investigations, cases awaiting judicial determination, legislative matters, and the overall performance of the Ministry.

Minister Makuei provided an update on progress made in handling legal affairs across the country and highlighted several challenges affecting the efficient administration of justice.

President Kiir welcomed the report and stressed the need for greater urgency in addressing unresolved cases, noting that timely and transparent justice remains essential for maintaining public confidence in state institutions and safeguarding the rights of citizens.

While receiving the briefing, President Kiir emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of South Sudan’s judicial system and upholding the country’s sovereignty through the rule of law. The President also highlighted that all legal matters must be handled through established judicial procedures, with each case receiving thorough review and due consideration in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of South Sudan. He noted that a credible and effective justice system remains fundamental to ensuring fairness, accountability, and equal protection under the law.

For his part, Minister Makuei reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to implementing the President’s directives and strengthening the delivery of legal and constitutional services across the country. He pledged that the Ministry would continue working closely with relevant institutions to address outstanding legal matters and improve the effectiveness of the justice sector.

The meeting reflects the government’s continued efforts to strengthen judicial institutions, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that justice is delivered in a timely manner for the benefit of all South Sudanese citizens.
