Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni met yesterday with the German Ambassador to Uganda, Matthias Schauer, at his presidential residence in Nakasero, where the two discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in trade, investment, technology, and sports development.
The meeting took place amid protests organized by supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) outside the German Embassy in Kampala, where they accused the ambassador of interfering in Uganda’s internal affairs.
A statement from the Ugandan presidency reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening their long-standing partnership, with President Museveni emphasizing the importance of cooperation based on mutual respect and shared development goals. For his part, Ambassador Schauer expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations.
This diplomatic encounter follows accusations by the PLU—led by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba—that the German ambassador was involved in alleged activities threatening Uganda’s security, claims previously echoed by Ugandan security agencies.
While the meeting was underway, PLU supporters staged a demonstration outside the German Embassy, led by the movement’s Director of Mobilization, Honorable Michael Mawanda, in an escalation reflecting growing opposition to what they described as “foreign interference in national sovereignty.”
