JUBA, August 5, 2026 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged the authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State state to remain committed to promoting peace, fostering unity among communities, and improving service delivery to enhance the livelihoods of the people.
This came after a briefing from Govenor Sheriff Daniel Sheriff on the state’s security, political, economic, and electoral preparedness.
Sheriff assured the President that the state is ready for the upcoming general elections. He said political parties in the state are working together in the common interest of the people, creating a conducive environment for a peaceful electoral process.
The meeting also touched on the humanitarian situation in the state, particularly the growing needs of returnees and refugees fleeing the conflict in neighbouring Sudan.
The briefing forms part of the President’s ongoing engagement with state governments ahead of the country’s general elections.
