JUBA, August 5, 2026 – The President of the Republic His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for calm among residents of Central Equatoria State, urging communities to allow the government to peacefully address the ongoing border issues with Uganda.
The president was speaking after receiving the resolutions of the recent South Sudan – Uganda cross-border meeting from Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Wednesday.
President Kiir welcomed the resolutions and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Joint Technical Border Committee to ensure the long-standing border dispute is resolved through dialogue.
Governor Adil said that during their recent visit to Kajo-Keji, state officials appealed to local communities to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions while the governments of South Sudan and Uganda work toward a lasting solution to the border issue.
Hon. Adil said that the meeting emphasised the urgent need to reactivate and fast-track the work of the Joint Technical Border Committees to accelerate the border demarcation process and implement agreed resolutions.
On the issue of elections, Governor Adil said the President directed the State government to intensify voter registration awareness and civic education campaigns to prepare citizens for the forthcoming elections.
