The National Parties Alliance (NPA) welcomes the recent address by His Excellency Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan, during the opening of Parliament where he emphasized the need for peace and called on all holdout opposition groups to join the peace process.

We commend President Kiir for his commitment to achieving peace in our country and agree that the inclusion of all stakeholders in the peace process is crucial for a sustainable and lasting peace. In line with this, we would like to express our support for his call and reaffirm our dedication to achieving peace in South Sudan.

It is important to note that the NPA and our forces have refrained from interfering in recent clashes following the fallout of the Tumaini Agreement in Nairobi, Kenya. This decision was made in the interest of promoting peace and stability in the country, and we believe that the President’s call for unity and inclusivity in the peace process aligns with our own goals and priorities.

We urge all holdout opposition groups to take heed of President Kiir’s call and come to the table for meaningful dialogue and collaboration. We remain committed to working towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in South Sudan and look forward to engaging in constructive discussions with all stakeholders to achieve this goal.

There are several reasons why we believe that peace is the only way forward for South Sudan:

1. Humanitarian Crisis: The ongoing conflict in South Sudan has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions of people facing food insecurity, displacement, and lack of access to basic services. Only through peace can we address these urgent needs and rebuild our nation.

2. Economic Development: The instability and violence in our country have hindered economic growth and development. Peace is essential for creating a conducive environment for investment, job creation, and sustainable development.

3. Social Cohesion: The divisions and mistrust created by the conflict have torn apart the social fabric of our society. Peace is necessary to heal these wounds, promote reconciliation, and foster unity among our people.

4. Rule of Law: The lack of peace has resulted in widespread human rights abuses, impunity, and lawlessness. Only through a peaceful resolution can we establish a rule of law that upholds justice, accountability, and respect for human rights.

5. International Relations: South Sudan’s reputation on the global stage has been tarnished by the conflict. Peace is essential for rebuilding our international relations, attracting foreign investment, and restoring our standing in the international community.

In conclusion, we stand united in our belief that peace is paramount for the prosperity and well-being of our nation. The NPA is fully committed to supporting efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous future for all South Sudanese.

Best Regards

Hon. Ms. Nyanthon Deng Rou Chairperson of the National Parties Alliance (NPA) “United for Peace”
