South Sudan’s defense forces announced the launch of a large-scale recruitment campaign to strengthen its naval forces and peacekeeping units, as part of efforts to enhance military capabilities.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the army’s general headquarters in the capital, Juba. A military spokesperson stated that the campaign aims to meet the need for specialized forces capable of securing vital waterways and increasing participation in peacekeeping operations.

The spokesperson explained that enhancing naval capabilities is crucial for protecting river networks essential for transport and trade, while peacekeeping units will bolster the country’s ability to support stability in conflict-affected areas locally and regionally.

Recruits will undergo specialized training in naval operations and waterway security, while peacekeeping units will focus on conflict resolution and coordination with international organizations.

The campaign is part of broader efforts to reinforce security and stability, coinciding with the country’s preparations for upcoming elections.
