Drone Strike Kills 11 at Displacement Camp in Al-Damar, Sudan

AL-DAMAR, Sudan, April 25, 2025 – A devastating drone strike struck a displacement camp in Sudan’s River Nile state, killing at least 11 civilians and injuring 23 others, according to the state governor. The attack, which occurred at dawn in the Al-Mogran area of Al-Damar, also destroyed a nearby power station, marking the fourth time the facility has been targeted.
The assault set tents ablaze, claiming the lives of mostly women, children, and elderly residents. Among the victims were two families burned inside their shelters. A teacher at the camp described hearing a massive explosion, only to discover the tragic loss of entire families. “We fled Khartoum to escape the war, but now the war has followed us here,” she said, expressing despair over the lack of safe shelter for her family.
The strike, attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), also caused widespread power outages across River Nile and Red Sea states, further straining infrastructure in army-controlled areas. The RSF has been linked to repeated attacks on power facilities in central and northern Sudan over recent months, though such strikes had previously caused minimal casualties. The paramilitary group has denied responsibility for the drone attacks and did not comment on the latest incident.
The governor condemned the strike as a “crime” and ordered the relocation of the camp to a safer area while urging international organizations to document the violations and hold those responsible accountable. The attack, carried out by a swarm of drones launching multiple missiles, underscores the escalating violence in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, which has displaced over 15 million people and pushed the country toward a humanitarian crisis.
