The Office of the President continues to drive the national agenda under the leadership of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit. This latest engagement reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to advancing South Sudan’s developmental and peace objectives as the nation prepares for its upcoming democratic transition.
JUBA, NOVEMBER 4, 2026 – His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has commended party members for their participation in the ongoing primaries and congresses across South Sudan, urging continued discipline, unity and commitment as the party prepares for the forthcoming general elections.
The President made the remarks after receiving a briefing from senior SPLM leadership, led by First Deputy Chairman Dr. James Wani Igga, on progress in the grassroots electoral processes and the renewal of party leadership structures.
SPLM Secretary General Dr. Akol Paul Kordit said the President congratulated members and cadres for their participation and encouraged them to uphold the spirit of discipline and sacrifice that characterised the Movement during the liberation struggle.
President Kiir also called for sustained efforts towards the reform, transformation and modernisation of the party, emphasising the importance of strengthening its internal structures and remaining responsive to the aspirations of the people.
Dr. Akol highlighted the national significance of the exercise, stating: “The stronger the SPLM, the stronger this Republic. The more transparent the SPLM, the more transparent the Republic of South Sudan.”
He said the ongoing primaries and congresses form part of the party’s broader efforts to renew its leadership, strengthen its institutions and prepare for the next general elections.
The President’s message reinforces the importance of unity, discipline and collective responsibility as the SPLM advances its internal electoral processes.
He added that the party had made a commitment to the people of South Sudan that the ongoing exercise would contribute to building a stronger and better country, with institutions capable of serving and protecting all citizens.
The Secretary General said the party remained committed to ensuring that the process contributes to the broader national agenda of political reform, institutional renewal and modernisation.
As the primaries and congresses continue across the country, the President’s message places renewed emphasis on discipline, unity and self-sacrifice, with party members expected to uphold these principles throughout the leadership selection process.
For the SPLM, the ongoing exercise is not only about choosing new leaders but also about strengthening its internal institutions ahead of the country’s next electoral chapter.
