As South Sudan progresses toward its first post-independence elections, preparations continue across all branches of government. The Office of the President remains focused on ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner that reflects the will of the South Sudanese people.

JUBA, SEPTEMBER 25, 2026 — South Sudan and Russia are moving to strengthen bilateral relations, with discussions focusing on the December elections, economic cooperation, education, culture and President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s planned participation in the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow.

The caretaker Minister of Presidential Affairs Africano Mande Gedima met with the Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Kosmodemyansky, where the two sides reviewed a broad range of issues aimed at further developing relations between the two countries.

The Russian diplomat conveyed congratulations from its leadership on South Sudan’s preparations for the December 2026 elections, reaffirming its support for the electoral process.

The Ambassador says Russia recognises South Sudan’s sovereignty and respects the principle of non-interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Officials say the meeting signal efforts by Juba and Moscow to broaden their relations beyond political engagement, with trade, education, culture and technical cooperation emerging as key areas for future collaboration.
