JUBA, October 2, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a strong call for accountability and effective performance among government officials, urging them to execute their responsibilities efficiently, responsibly and transparently in service to the people of South Sudan.

President Kiir made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of Caretaker Minister of Health Dak Duop Bishok and the Board of Directors of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), chaired by Dr. Dier Tong Ngor.

The President pledged his support to the officials as they carry out their duties, stressing that they should be allowed to operate freely within the law and their constitutional mandates.

“I want you to function freely. Nobody will catch your hand if you are doing good things. But if you are going to do things contrary and not in conformity with your constitutional mandate, then you will be held to account,” President Kiir said.

The President’s remarks underscored the importance of institutional responsibility, adherence to the law and accountability as the newly appointed officials assume their roles.

Following the ceremony, Dr. Dier Tong Ngor expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in the new board and pledged that its members would discharge their responsibilities with seriousness and professionalism.

He emphasised the critical role of the National Bureau of Statistics in generating reliable information for national planning and development, stressing that credible national data requires a strong statistical institution committed to professionalism, accuracy and integrity.

For his part, Caretaker Minister of Health Dak Duop Bishok pledged to work toward improving health services across the country. He also highlighted the importance of accurate statistical information in developing effective health policies, allocating resources and guiding national planning.

The swearing-in marks renewed focus on institutional performance and effective service delivery, with President Kiir calling on officials to fulfil their mandates and remain accountable to the people of South Sudan.
