JUBA, October 1, 2026 — The National Elections Commission (NEC) has presented the voter registration book and other electoral forms to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit, marking a significant step in preparations for South Sudan’s upcoming elections.
NEC Chairperson Gabriel Bol Deng described the presentation as an important milestone in the country’s electoral and democratic process, emphasising the central role of voter registration in laying the foundation for credible elections.
He further highlighted the security features incorporated into the voter registration booklet. The system is designed to assign every registered voter in South Sudan a unique registration number, enabling their identity to be verified through a diligent and secure process.
These safeguards are intended to protect the integrity of the voter register and prevent registration records from being infiltrated, duplicated or fraudulently reproduced.
“Credible elections begin with transparency, inclusivity and an accurate voter registration process,” Deng said.
The presentation underscores the NEC’s ongoing efforts to put the necessary administrative and technical mechanisms in place ahead of the elections.
H.E. President Kiir commended the Commission for its commitment and dedication to advancing the electoral process, urging it to maintain momentum and ensure that all necessary preparations are completed on schedule.
The presentation is a concrete step toward voter registration, which will determine the eligibility of citizens to participate in the elections. An accurate, secure and inclusive voter register will be essential to strengthening public confidence in the process and supporting a credible democratic transition.
