JUBA, JULY 2, 2026 — SPLM Chairman and President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, has declared the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement ready to lead South Sudan into the December 2026 general elections, calling on party leaders to unite, reject violence, and deliver a decisive victory at the polls.

Opening the SPLM Leadership Retreat in Juba under the theme “Transforming SPLM Vision into Action,” President Kiir said the party is entering a new chapter focused on strengthening its structures, modernising its policies, and responding to the aspirations of the South Sudanese people.

The retreat brought together senior SPLM leaders from across the country to review the party’s progress and finalise its electoral strategy ahead of the December elections.

President Kiir reaffirmed that South Sudan is firmly on course for elections, announcing that the constitutional-making process and the population census have been delinked from the electoral timetable to guarantee that the vote proceeds as scheduled.

He also announced the formation of an inter-party dialogue committee to build national consensus on outstanding electoral issues and ensure a peaceful, credible democratic process.

Confident of the party’s prospects, President Kiir directed the SPLM National Secretariat to prepare the 2026–2031 National Framework and immediately launch a nationwide membership registration drive to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.

He further stressed that government appointments must follow established SPLM procedures, reinforcing discipline, accountability, and merit within the movement.

Reaffirming the SPLM’s historic responsibility to safeguard peace and national unity, President Kiir called on all political actors to reject violence and resolve differences through dialogue.

He urged party leaders to remain focused on serving the people, expressing confidence that the SPLM is well-positioned to secure a strong mandate and lead South Sudan into a new era of peace, stability, and democratic governance.
