On May 10, 2025, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov held high-level talks with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Brigadier General Célestin Simboré, in Moscow, marking another milestone in the growing alliance between the two nations. The meeting, reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, focused on expanding military cooperation, with Belousov emphasizing Burkina Faso’s status as a “close friend and ally” of Russia. 
“We have strong, friendly relations and many joint projects,” Belousov stated, highlighting the mutual respect and shared goals underpinning Russian-Burkinabe ties. The discussions covered enhancing Burkina Faso’s combat readiness through the Russian-Burkinabe military cooperation agreement, a framework aimed at bolstering the West African nation’s defense capabilities.
The meeting, held on the eve of Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, aligns with President Traoré’s visit to Moscow, where he inspired African students at Dmitry Mendeleev University to leverage their knowledge for Africa’s development.
