As your Chairperson, I want to emphasize our unwavering commitment to empowering women, who constitute 50% of our population. We recognize the vital role women play in promoting peace and stability, and I intend to guide this alliance with this principle at the forefront.

Active involvement of women in discussions about peace and security is crucial. They often take on leadership roles in protecting their families, and the consequences of conflict are tragically clear: a mother typically bears the brunt of violence, losing children and husbands.

Since 2013, our country has faced persistent challenges, and we have yet to establish a sustainable peace framework. To achieve a peaceful South Sudan and foster meaningful dialogue, we believe the following key points are essential:

The Indispensable Role of Women in Peace and Security

Active involvement of women in discussions about peace and security is crucial. They often take on leadership roles in protecting their families, and the consequences of conflict are tragically clear: a mother typically bears the brunt of violence, losing children and husbands.

Since 2013, our country has faced persistent challenges, and we have yet to establish a sustainable peace framework. To achieve a peaceful South Sudan and foster meaningful dialogue, we believe the following key points are essential:

Inclusive Dialogue: All segments of society must be invited to the table, ensuring that diverse voices, including those from marginalized communities, women, and youth, are heard and integrated into peace processes.

Accountability and Justice: Establishing mechanisms for accountability for past atrocities and ensuring justice for victims are crucial steps towards healing and reconciliation, building trust, and preventing future conflicts.

Security Sector Reform: A unified, professional, and accountable security sector, representative of all communities, is fundamental to maintaining peace and protecting civilians.

Equitable Resource Sharing: Transparent and fair distribution of national resources is vital to address economic grievances and promote sustainable development, reducing the drivers of conflict.

Strengthening Institutions: Building robust and democratic institutions that uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, and provide essential services is key to long-term stability.

We strongly encourage all South Sudanese to lead peaceful initiatives and share their visions for our nation’s prosperous future. All sectors must unite to promote peace; our beautiful country deserves a resolution to the ongoing conflicts. The absence of peace hinders our ability to realize our potential and improve our quality of life. We must actively combat tribalism, which undermines our collective strength and progress in South Sudan.

Historically, South Sudan has supported marginalized communities; however, self-interested agendas often obstruct our national priorities. While we remain dedicated to the peace process, unity and collaborative support are essential for addressing the significant challenges we face, both domestically and internationally. Our coalition aims to bring together diverse parties toward shared goals that enhance the welfare of our nation.

Since gaining independence from Sudan, we have confronted numerous challenges despite our abundant resources and rich cultural heritage. Our new action plan acknowledges the adversities faced by our citizens and honors their remarkable resilience amid hardship. Although we have attempted to engage with various opposition groups, finding effective solutions has proven complex, highlighting the need for improved collaboration.

A Collective Call for Inclusive Dialogue

As a coalition, we represent diverse backgrounds and shared experiences of hardship, including issues like food insecurity and economic instability.

I urge the government of South Sudan to listen to our collective call for inclusive dialogue, considering multiple perspectives. All parties must work together to find solutions that promote national development and peace.

Our primary focus should remain on the welfare of our citizens and our collective efforts to build a brighter future.

I urge the government to listen attentively to the voices of those who have endured the consequences of this prolonged conflict.

Engaging with individuals without prejudging their past actions during the war is essential. History offers no benefits if we do not prioritize our present and future. While some may pursue individual objectives, that does not mean they should monopolize power indefinitely. We owe it to ourselves to work together for the greater advancement of our community. All segments of society must be invited to the table, ensuring that diverse voices, including those from marginalized communities, women, and youth, are heard and integrated into peace processes.
