JUBA, October 14, 2026 — The Caretaker Minister of Presidential Affairs, Africano Mande Gedima, met with Israeli Ambassador Gershon Kedar to discuss cooperation in first aid training and space science, alongside preparations for South Sudan’s December elections.
Ambassador Kedar’s visit to South Sudan from Jerusalem this week included support for a first aid training programme facilitated through MASHAV, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ agency for international development cooperation. An expert from Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical and disaster response organisation, is conducting a course for South Sudan Red Cross trainers drawn from Juba and all states.
The training equips participants with practical techniques to respond to injuries and save lives using readily available materials in homes, markets, streets and other everyday settings, particularly where standard first aid equipment is unavailable.
The meeting also reviewed scientific cooperation involving the University of Juba and the Space Science Academy. Following two to three years of lectures, courses and online workshops involving students, university staff and other stakeholders, work is beginning towards establishing a ground satellite station at the University of Juba to expand academic and technical opportunities in space science.
Minister Gedima briefed Ambassador Kedar on progress in preparations for the December elections and the outstanding work ahead of the polls. The ambassador expressed his wishes for peace and stability in South Sudan as the country advances towards elections.
