President Salva Kiir Mayardit. This latest engagement reflects the government&#8217;s ongoing commitment to advancing South Sudan&#8217;s developmental and peace objectives as the nation prepares for its upcoming democratic transition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">JUBA, September 24, 2026 &mdash; His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has met a high-level delegation from the East African Community, led by Secretary-General Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi, as South Sudan begins national consultations on the proposed EAC Political Confederation.<\/p>\n<p><span>Ambassador Mbundi briefed the President on key regional priorities, including expanding regional trade, improving infrastructure, addressing climate change and advancing deeper political integration among partner states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The consultations will bring together political leaders, civil society, women, youth and academia to gather views on how the proposed confederation should be structured and governed. The process will enable South Sudanese citizens and stakeholders to contribute to shaping the country&rsquo;s position on the future regional arrangement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by the recently sworn-in Caretaker Minister of East African Community Affairs, Michael Makuei Lueth.
