Juba, April 30, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday swore in a new group of senior government officials at the State House, directing them to serve with commitment, discipline, and professionalism.<\/p>\n

The officials sworn in include Dr. James Pitia Morgan as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya Ugila as Minister of Trade and Industry; and Atong Kuol Manyang as Minister of Youth and Sports. During the ceremony, the ministers took oath, pledging “to be faithful and bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of South Sudan, and to diligently and honestly discharge their duties and responsibilities and strive to foster the development and welfare of its people.”<\/p>\n

Also sworn in was Justin Monyping Ater as Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, who pledged “to exercise the powers vested upon me by the South Sudan Human Rights Commission Act, 2009, with integrity and dignity, in the best interest of the people of South Sudan, and to respect and abide by all rules, regulations, and instructions.”<\/p>\n

In the security sector, Gen. Akec Tong Aleu took oath as Director General of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) of the National Security Service, while Lt. Gen. Napoleon Adok Gai was sworn in as Deputy Director General for Finance and Administration, ISB. The two officials affirmed their commitment “to protect and uphold the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, 2011 (as amended), respect the rule of law and human dignity, discharge the duties entrusted upon them under the National Security Service Act, 2014 (as amended), protect the national interest and security of the Republic of South Sudan, obey their superiors, and preserve the secrecy of the service during and after their employment.”<\/p>\n

Addressing the appointees, President Kiir urged them to carry out their duties effectively and in accordance with the law. He particularly called on security officials to uphold professionalism, discipline, and accountability in the execution of their responsibilities.<\/p>\n
