JUBA, JUNE 22, 2026 – The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Africano Mande Gedima, on Monday held a candid and constructive meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to South Sudan to discuss the current state of affairs in the country, preparations for the December 2026 General Elections, and the longstanding partnership between South Sudan and Norway.<\/p>\n
The discussions focused on the ongoing political transition, the electoral process, peace and security, economic challenges, and areas of continued cooperation between South Sudan and its international partners.<\/span><\/p>\n Ambassador of Norway reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting peace, stability, and democratic progress in South Sudan. He emphasised the importance of maintaining peace before, during, and after the elections and reiterated the need for all stakeholders to continue working towards silencing the guns and advancing the implementation of the peace process.<\/span><\/p>\n The Ambassador noted that Norway, together with other international partners, remains optimistic about South Sudan’s future while also expressing concerns regarding several ongoing challenges facing the country. He stressed the importance of continued progress in governance, service delivery, economic reforms, and institutional development.<\/span><\/p>\n Hon. Africano welcomed the frank exchange of views and encouraged Norway and other friends of South Sudan to continue engaging openly with the government through the established channels of dialogue. He underscored the historic relationship between South Sudan and Norway, describing it as a partnership that has spanned decades and contributed significantly to the country’s journey toward peace and state-building. <\/span><\/p>\n The Minister emphasised that while perspectives on certain issues may differ, honest and constructive dialogue remains essential in addressing the country’s challenges and identifying practical solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n Both sides acknowledged that many of the challenges confronting South Sudan predate the current transitional period and agreed on the importance of addressing them through dialogue, cooperation, and institution-building. The meeting also underscored the need to distinguish ongoing judicial processes from broader political developments while respecting the sovereignty and constitutional institutions of the Republic of South Sudan.<\/span><\/p>\n Hon.
