JUBA, JUNE 3, 2026 – His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit has commended the performance of South Sudan’s oil sector following a significant increase in crude oil production, describing the development as an important step toward strengthening the country’s economy and supporting national development.<\/p>\n

The President received a briefing from senior petroleum sector officials, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, Eng. Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar, the Managing Director of Nilepet, Hon. Emmanuel Athiei Ayual, and the President of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), Mr. HE Yanhui.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, H.E. President Kiir urged oil sector stakeholders to maintain stability in the oil fields and continue efforts to increase production. He stressed that South Sudan has the resources and potential to finance its development agenda through the responsible and efficient management of its natural wealth.<\/p>\n

Officials reported that GPOC has increased crude oil production from 44,000 barrels per day to 60,000 barrels per day, marking the highest production level recorded by the company since it began operations in South Sudan in 2005.<\/p>\n

President Kiir welcomed the achievement and encouraged continued collaboration between government institutions and oil operators to improve efficiency, expand production, and maximize the benefits of the country’s petroleum resources for the people of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

The GPOC leadership also highlighted ongoing investments in modern technologies to enhance operational performance and sustain production growth. In addition, the company reported progress in building local capacity through the training of South Sudanese engineers, technicians, and contractors to support the long-term growth of the industry.<\/p>\n

The increase in production is expected to boost government revenues and strengthen economic resilience as South Sudan continues to pursue reforms, infrastructure development, and improved service delivery.
